Milk Money – A Must for Many

Last week, Russ and I took a mini break for a few days to go see a Broadway in Chicago show and to of course, visit some breweries out in the suburbs. The first stop we made was at a brewery already on the trail – Milk Money in La Grange, Illinois.

I LOVE walls of windows for natural light!

From the moment we walked in, I immediately felt at home in the modern, yet cozy atmosphere. We met up with Kim and Dan Schick to share a day of brews and hopping around the area!

For those of you who do not know, Milk Money is the first brewery official brewery in La Grange after having convinced the village to change the local ordinance to allow for their location. It is in the heart of downtown La Grange, across the street from the historical La Grange Theater. All four of the owners are local, and they source many of their ingredients locally as well, including purchasing many of their vegetables from the local farmer’s market.

I know, I know… you didn’t read this to hear about vegetables. Please allow me to wax poetic about the beer! I ordered a flight, and I enjoyed all four of my options!

Burlington Northern (Light Ale), Tres Amigos (Mexican lager),
Flannel Time (Amber ale) & Broken Cookies (Oatmeal stout)

The Burlington North was light and crisp. I could easily drink this one on a dock overlooking the lake up north. The Tres Amigos was also light, but had a smooth mouthfeel to it. If we didn’t have three other stops, I’d have gotten a pints of that one. The Flannel Time was good, but was a bit more on the hoppy side than I prefer, so I swapped with Russ for his Tres Amigos. The Broken Cookies was full bodies and balanced.

We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. The fried cheese curds were amazing and made my cheese nerd heart happy! We also had the fresh guacamole with house made chips and the bavarian pretzel with gruyere cheese dip (happy cheese nerd again) and stone ground mustard.

I’m glad I remembered to get my tag and milk wagon charm!!!

We also visited a few other spots around Milk Money to try to build a nice pocket of TagaBrew spots to visit (can you say brewery crawl…). No matter the outcome, I will DEFINITELY be back here again. The cheese curds and Tres Amegos are calling my name…

Cheers!
